In recent years Taiwan has once again become a recurring news media favourite. Journalists have marvelled over Taiwanese achievements on issues of gender and sexuality, while some have spread panic through exaggerations of the possibility of war across the Strait.

This panel will consider Taiwan from an Australian perspective. What do we need to know about the conflict between China and Taiwan, and how can we understand Taiwan in relation to Australia?
